Investment Powering Growth in Manchester

Whisper it quietly, but there are exciting things happening in Manchester.... Birthplace of the industrial revolution and home of modern computing, Manchester has always enjoyed a rich tradition of being at the leading edge of science and technology. And that is exactly what is happening within TT Electronics’ new state-of-the-art facility situated on the outskirts of the city - where our teams of Power and Control experts are building their own legacy.

For decades, TT Electronics has stood as a trusted partner to world leading manufacturers. From the Tornado military jet in the 80’s through to Tempest - scheduled for service in 2035, TT has been delivering innovative power and control solutions. At the heart of this has been an unwavering commitment to innovation and progress and I’m proud to say it’s what continues to drive us today.

It was this commitment that guided us to take the next step on our power journey. Following the acquisition of Ferranti’s Power and Control business in 2022 we took the decision to invest in-line with our global strategy, moving through the value chain to create a state-of-the-art research and development facility in Manchester.

Fast forward two years and it has been thrilling to witness this investment take shape. It has enabled our brightest minds to push the frontiers of power to deliver a future for the business that is full of promise.

Much has changed since TT's Power Leadership team first toured the site in November 2022 with the new purpose built Power facility opened in September 2023

The drive towards Electrification and growing demand for higher voltage DC power distribution continues to fuel the need for innovative power supplies and conversion systems. The increased R&D capability and capacity Manchester now delivers, leaves us better positioned to invest and support customers through the entire life cycle of their platforms.

The facility is already delivering competitive advantage. The investment allowed us to create the ideal power workshop, building an expanded 'Power-Lab’ and streamlining our design, development, and manufacturing processes, to improve workflow - allowing us to formulate next-gen solutions faster and smarter than ever before.

Perhaps the most exciting thing though is that there is much more to come…

We're continuing to invest in expertise, adding resources, and optimising on the increased manufacturing potential to ensure we remain at the forefront of electrification in the years to come.

TT Electronics, CEO - Peter France tours the recently opened facility...

We have taken a long-term approach to our presence in Manchester. From the outset, we looked to build not just a world-class facility – which we did, but also a connected community. We worked hard to engage with our workforce at every step of the relocation process to keep our teams informed and involved in creating an environment they are proud to be part of. Intent on being a good neighbour, we are also committed to providing a better environment in the areas where we live and work. Passionate about STEM we will continue to work with schools and colleges to help build the skills and knowledge to develop the talented engineers, designers and technicians of tomorrow.

The possibilities are endless for Manchester, and while we are still at the beginning of our journey in this thriving city - I for one cannot wait to see how it will shape a smarter future for us all.

Power up. Let’s go Manchester!
