Latest multi-million pound contract, will see TT's Abercynon facility Design, Manufacture and Integrate complex cable assemblies on Challenger 3 prototype vehicles.

TT Electronics, a global provider of custom power solutions and engineered technologies, today announced the company’s Abercynon facility has been awarded another significant contract with Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL). The multi-million pound contract stipulates the design and manufacture of cable assemblies for RBSL’s Challenger 3 programme. This award further reinforces the long-standing collaboration between TT Electronics and RBSL.

TT Electronics will lead the design, manufacture and integration of the electric cable harness assemblies, enabling power and communication capability on the Challenger 3 prototype vehicles. Engineers based at the Abercynon site in Wales will apply their expertise in complex interconnect systems to ensure best-in-class electrical system performance is delivered for the UK’s future armed forces.

With a proven track record working on critical military programmes, our approach is to build a collaborative partnership focussed on the customers’ needs,” said Matt Yeates, Vice President and General Manager, TT Electronics. “That coupled with our vertical integration capabilities and speed to market offering, position TT as an ideal power solutions partner. RBSL are a valued customer, and we are proud to be strengthening our relationship through the Challenger 3 contract.”

The Challenger contract award, together with last year’s Boxer win, has led to a significant number of new positions being created at the Abercynon site. A number of roles have been recruited across multiple departments, including Sales, Manufacturing and Engineering. Furthermore, the award has presented the opportunity to create three new apprenticeship positions. Explore our current vacancies here.

Colin McClean, Managing Director at RBSL added: “This latest contract award will not only help us to successfully deliver the Challenger 3 Programme for the British Army, but it also contributes to investment in UK skills, capability and the resilience of the UK defence supply chain. Both RBSL and TT Electronics have worked closely together for several years and we look forward to commencing the next phase of our relationship.”
